How to read the price

Every private and voluntary nursing home in Fair Deal has a maximum weekly price agreed with the National Treatment Purchase Fund. Public homes run by the HSE publish a weekly cost of care instead. Both are the full weekly cost before any State support.

  • The price does not change what you pay. Your contribution is fixed by the financial assessment (80% of income and 7.5% of assets). The HSE pays the rest, whether the home charges €1,200 or €2,200. See your figure.
  • Extras are not included. Hairdressing, therapies, activities, newspapers, transport to appointments and some incontinence products can be charged separately. Ask every home for its list of extra charges in writing before you sign the contract of care.
  • A higher price is not a higher standard. Prices reflect location and buildings more than care. Read the inspection reports.
  • Public homes can cost more on paper because their figure is a cost of care rather than a negotiated price. Your contribution is the same either way.

Register of homes from HIQA’s register of designated centres for older people. Weekly prices from the HSE’s published list of maximum agreed prices for private and voluntary nursing homes and its public cost-of-care list, both dated 4 September 2026 and updated monthly by the HSE. Inspection reports are published by HIQA and are linked, not reproduced. A home with no price shown was not on the HSE list on that date; ask the home directly. fairdeal.ie is independent of HIQA, the HSE and every nursing home listed.
